The seasoned broadcaster told Brits tuning into BBC Yorkshire and Lincolnshire he would “see them tomorrow night at half past six”.
But due to a blunder with the Beeb’s transcription, the subtitles instead read “tomorrow night at happy sex”.
The comical mistake left Northerners in stitches as the mild-mannered host appeared to have made a risque remark during the tea time show.
But Peter managed to see the funny side of the error, later sharing an image of the incorrect subtitles with his 96,700 Twitter followers.
He joked in a caption: “You couldn’t make it up!”
The Beeb apologised for the botched transcript and to “anyone confused” by the typo.
Viewers were left amused by the unfortunate faux pas, with some ribbing the presenter.
One wrote: “Good to see Peter with a new hobby lol.”

Another added: “Peter already planning his night out?”
It’s not the first time the BBC have been left red-faced by their incorrect subtitles either – as BBC weather presenter Sam Fraser was also wrongly translated on air.
The technical gaffe saw her appear to say “..seven becoming northwesterly for the sex later. Visibility is good.”

She said of Peter’s awkward moment: “Yup… Been there myself. Can never talk about North Westerly winds without a tingle.”
And BBC iPlayer viewers also spotted subtitles listing the world tampon instead of tent as Greg James hosted The Biggest Weekend.
