However, Rangers will have to either sell Borna Barisic or qualify for the Champions League group stages to fund the deal.

The future of 40-year-old Allan McGregor at Rangers remains unclear with last season’s keeper out of contract.

Connor Goldson will stay however, after he signed a bumper new contract at Ibrox.

The central defender has put pen to paper on a deal which will see him through to the summer of 2026 – and commit the best years of his career to the club.

It puts an end to one of the longest-running contract sagas in Scottish football.

And the Rangers social media team couldn’t resist marking the moment with a tease, writing online: “Rangers today wishes to put on record our sincere thanks to Connor Goldson for his service to the club over the past four years…

“…as we look ahead to the next four years of having him at Ibrox”.
