With a premium edge, BMW say the model comes with increased interior spaciousness, a new operating system and a large selection of automated driving and parking systems.

But importantly, it’s the first vehicle in the series to offer a fully electric driving experience set to complement the brand’s existing battery-electric models.

The BMW X1, which is considerably larger than its predecessor, will be available with one petrol engine and two diesel engine options.

A pair of plug-in hybrid models will join the range immediately after launch, as will the new BMW iX1 xDrive30.
