CONOR McGREGOR has been urged to snub Mike Tyson’s “risky” advice for his return to the UFC.

Boxing legend Tyson recently called for the UFC’s poster boy to take a couple of tune-up fights before mixing it with the lightweight division’s big boys.

“There’s no guarantees in the fight game and if he loses to [someone outside of the top five], then it’s even worse if he was to go in against the champ, Charles Oliveira.

“[If] you go up against the champ Charles Oliveira [first], you get beat, oh well, so what? No big deal.

“Everybody’s losing to him right now. Charles Oliveira is the man.

“However, if [McGregor] loses to someone ranked down the pecking order, ranked six, seven, something like that, now it’s a very different conversation that’s taking place.”

McGregor, 33, is currently on a two-fight skid following back-to-back defeats to former interim lightweight champion Dustin Poirier.

The Irishman snapped his left leg in his rubber match with The Diamond last July but appears to be on course to return to the octagon later this year.

McGregor has set his sights on a summer return, but UFC president Dana White expects him to be back in action in the autumn at the earliest.

The veteran promoter told SunSport: “We’re looking at early fall, if everything goes right.”
