I’m a bride & I HATED my wedding day – my family was useless, but my mom has a split opinion

For one bride, to say her big day was a disaster is an understatement, and she was the first one to admit it.

Planning a wedding is a lot of work, especially if you’re doing it all on your own without professional help.
There’s a lot you have to account for and a lot that has to be prepared ahead of time aside from just the food.
Reddit user @katherrrrrine posted a five-page saga on a wedding full of unfortunate events written by none other than the bride herself.
The caption read: “This bride absolutely hated her wedding day.”

Before the bride goes into detail about everything that went wrong, she admits that she hated her wedding and that she’s sick of people telling her that marriage is what matters.
She says: “A marriage and a wedding are two very different things that do not equate to one another. I did not NEED a wedding in order to be married… I love my marriage, and I can hate my wedding too.”
The bride prefaces the story with the fact that she chose not to hire an event coordinator because of their financial situation.
Instead, she chose to put her faith in herself, her husband, her family, and the wedding parties.

The first hiccup of the day was her family’s refusal to help.
There was a UHaul coming to pick up a bunch of things from the house to take to the wedding, including a few wine barrels.
When the bride asked if they could help move stuff out of the way in the garage, they didn’t want to.
She then proceeded to do it alone.
Although this helped save time so that her husband and his groomsmen knew exactly what to load in the truck, she was forced to do her hair quickly.
But this wouldn’t be the only time she had to fix her hair with little time.
The bride had to do her hair in the bathroom during her bridal shower and then again after her brother ended up messing it up.
Her brother only continued to be a problem.
If rushed hair wasn’t the worst thing, the fact that her makeup bag full of $300 worth of products getting left behind at the house was.

Since her brother packed up his things and got his baby ready just one minute before they had to leave the house, the bride was unable to double-check if she had everything.
The result ended in her asking everyone at the bridal shower if she could borrow their makeup.
Although the bridal party arrived on time, the groom’s party was 40 minutes late.
By the time she got there, the UHaul was still being unloaded, and no one knew what they were supposed to be doing.
“Really – I am appreciative of the love and support my friends and family gave us in making these things happen. But I still hate how late everything was, and the consequences of it,” she wrote.
The bride added: “And I really hate how everyone kept saying to sit down and they would handle it because that wasn’t true.”
In the process of getting ready, her brother-in-law had forgotten his suit and took her keys to go back to the house to get it.
He finally arrived back with a suit, but no keys.
Her brother-in-law lost her keys, and they still have not been found.
By the time the reception rolled around, nothing was getting better.
Everything was running late; the dinner, toasts, and corn hole tournament were behind schedule, and the cake was never even brought out.
The groomsmen decided they wanted to change, so her husband went with them.
But he forgot that they had to take more pictures later, which left him gone for an hour while she was announcing the corn hole tournament alone.
Additionally, the desert was left sitting in the boxes, the cake topper was found broken, and her family ended up throwing out a bag that contained important gifts.
To top the whole experience off, the $2200 wedding dress she had worn is now ruined even though she needs to wear it again for more pictures.
Readers had mixed opinions with some taking her side and others ridiculing her for her actions.

One reader wrote, “Yeah, everyone else definitely dropped balls, but at that point you need to adjust expectations and cut way back to the bare minimum of what needs getting done.”
Another said, “Yeah, this reads as she wanted to be in control of everything but didn’t know how to do any kind of event planning.”
