I moved my family into a Home Depot shed after getting in debt – now we’ve sold it for $300,000
A DAD has shared how be managed to make a profit by moving his family into a home depot shed in Georgia when his family got in debt.
Nick Lucido and his wife Meghan experienced financial distress after their spending got out of control.
“We never missed a mortgage payment,” Nick told The Post.
“We were both just really young — young professionals. And we had two brand new cars, brand new house, and we were just over our head in debt.”
In an Instagram post, Nick explained: “Including student loan debt, cars, mortgage and typical eating out, and having fun, we were just scraping by.”
After Meghan fell pregnant, the couple was forced to sell their 2,000-square-foot home in the city of Cumming.
In March 2020, Nick and his wife acquired a $40,000 plot of land spanning 8.46 acres.
“We saw a two-story shed in the Home Depot parking lot, and said ‘I think we could make that work’,” Nick explained.
After buying the 860-square-foot “tiny cabin”, the young parents slowly turned the wooden structure into a home ready for “full-time living”.
During that time, the young dad explains the little family lived in a campervan – to save money.
On his social account, Nick revealed that the atypical move allowed them to become debt-free by paying off $82,000 in just nine months.
On TikTok, Nick gave viewers a tour of the shed in a viral video.

The dad said: “If you go to any Home Depot, at least in the southeast, you go inside of their parking lot, you’ll typically see sheds … this right here is actually a tiny home, Tuff shed from Home Depot, two stories, 860 square feet, one-bedroom, full kitchen, full living room, the porch, then of course we got a chicken coop back there … a deck with our above-ground pool and a trampoline for the little one, of course.”
Nick and Meghan’s toddler currently sleeps in the house’s sole bedroom, which also contains a full washer/dryer areas, and a walk-in closet as well as a shower.
Nick went on to explain that the couple ended up flipping the refurbed shed, ultimately selling both the house and the land for $312,000 in December.
