The Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards is investigating.

An email has been sent to the Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection command, asking members to come forward if they have lost money.

It is understood the cop, a sergeant in central London, sold cut-price tickets for West End shows and concerts through the unit’s social club.

He is off sick and cannot be questioned under disciplinary rules unless he returns to work.

He has not been arrested and it is understood investigators are trying to establish whether it was poor bookkeeping or dishonesty.

Total losses are said to amount to “a considerable sum”.

A source said: “The officer is very popular and was trusted by everyone. What has happened has shocked people.”

The PaDP command provides armed and unarmed cover at Westminster and No 10.

The unit is the subject of a review by Baroness Casey after the murder of Sarah Everard by firearms officer Wayne Couzens.
