Love Island bosses reveal fan favourite challenge won’t return this year – with just days to go before final

LOVE Island bosses have confirmed that the controversial Online Buzz Twitter challenge won’t return this year.

The game involves the Islanders guessing what or whom online comments are about and in the past it has led to explosive scenes as the cast learnt the truth behind certain situations.

Viewers thought they’d spotted a clue that the fan favourite was coming, when the official ITV2 Love Island Twitter page added a disclaimer that read: “Tweets and comments may be used on social incl. your name and/or twitter handle.”

But The Sun can reveal that the challenge will not feature in this year’s series.

A source said: “As we’ve already seen, not every game is repeated year on year. Just because a challenge was part of the format for a couple of series doesn’t mean it’s here to stay.

“Producers always try and keep things fresh or respond to feedback, for example with removing food challenges.”

The Online Buzz game was last seen in 2019, when a string of turtle tweets were used that branded Molly-Mae Hague ‘Money-Mae’.

In 2020’s winter Love Island, a different challenge called The Sidebar of Shame was played instead.

It caused shockwaves as the Islanders saw media headlines about their time in the villa.

The Lie Detector test is another game that was once part of the furniture but was not repeated after 2018’s series.

Host Laura Whitmore has, however, confirmed that the baby challenge will return this week.
