My best friend is milking his injury so I keep helping with housework

0

DEAR DEIDRE: MY best friend is milking his injury so I go round to help him with his housework. I’ve had enough.

I’m a man of 35 and I’m married with two children.

Is my friend taking me for a mug?

My mate had a motorbike accident and he’s needed a bit of physio since.

He says he can’t walk unaided so he’s in a wheelchair.

He’s 38 and he lives alone.

His dad has died and his mother has health issues so she can’t help him.

I offered my support and he suggested doing his washing and running the vacuum around. I was only too glad to help.

Now he wants me round twice a week and he’s even asked me to clean his oven.

He slipped up last week, saying he was going to do some work for his old boss who he used to renovate properties for.

I said: “How are you going to do that when you can’t walk?”

Is my friend taking me for a mug?

DEIDRE SAYS: He may well be taking advantage of your good nature.

But rather than causing upset and losing a mate, explain that you’d prefer to enjoy the friendship you once had.
