I saved a fortune by ‘panelling’ my kids’ room for £17, trolls say it looks bad but I love it and it’s so easy to do
A SAVVY couple wanted to recreate a shiplap panelled wall without splashing out on the wood and carpenter needed to install the feature, so they found a budget version for a fraction of the price.
Mum Lauren Shaver and her partner spruced up their children’s bedroom by giving a panelling effect, using a £17 Sharpie paint pen.
The savvy couple saved a fortune by using this cheap hack to ‘panel’ their children’s room[/caption] Instead of installing the wooden strips they just used a £17 paint pen[/caption] The pair drew a series of vertical lines along the wall with a plank of wood as a guide[/caption]The DIYers shared the hack on TikTok where they showed off the results of their handiwork.
In the short video, they displayed the finished product with the caption: “This isn’t what you think.”
They then showed themselves using a piece of wood as a guide and drawing the lines on with a pen.
They said: “It’s £17 shiplap with a paint pen.”

Lauren hit back at the haters and said: “Some of these commenters have never seen design trends this year and it shows. Good gosh y’all. Design repeats itself. Like fashion. Yes it’s back.”
But not everyone was critical of the look.
One person said: “I like it! especially smart in a kids room where they damage the walls and paint and change their mind on colour all the time!!”
