The beast inflicted a total of 17 deep bites and scratches on the defenceless girl after sinking its teeth into her arms and legs.

The youngster was rushed to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee after running for her life to get away from the crazed animal following the attack at a family friend’s house on June 13.

The girl was taken into theatre for a three-hour surgery as medics worked on her horrific injuries.

Pictures  show the extent of the wounds across the young girl’s calves, thighs and arms as she lay in a hospital bed.

Her mum  –  who can’t be named for legal reasons –  was left heartbroken after the attack which left her daughter fearing she would die.

The woman said: “She had 13 bites on one calf, a bite on her arm, a big paw mark on her bum. She was in surgery for three hours.

“Never in my life do I want to experience this again – it’s bad enough taking your kid to the dentist never mind anything like this.

“In total she had 17 bites and two blood clots, and one bite was millimetres from a main artery.

“After it happened she told me ‘mum I’ve never run so fast in my life – I thought I was going to die’.

The horrified mother told how her daughter was left unable to walk for weeks as she recovered following surgery.

And she says her child has been left “traumatised” and struggles to sleep at night.

She said: “It’s just as well we have a toilet upstairs because she couldn’t walk for two weeks as she had to keep her leg elevated.

“She is such an active girl, so it was hard seeing her like that. But her friends were great, they were coming to see her.

“It’s traumatised her and she’s going to bed thinking it’s coming into the room to attack her and she’s having nightmares.

“You never think it’s going to happen top your daughter or your child. I can’t deal with the fact that this has happened to her.

“She’s scarred for life. There’s nothing that can change what’s happened now.”

Last night cops confirmed that a 34-year-old woman has been charged in connection with the incident.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “A 34-year-old woman was arrested and charged under the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 after a 15-year-old girl was seriously injured when she was bitten by a XL Bully type dog at an address in Rosemount Road, Dundee, on Monday, 13 June, 2022.

“The girl was taken to Ninewells Hospital for treatment.

“The 34-year-old woman has been reported to the Procurator Fiscal.”
