Every night, I lie awake worrying about my autistic son’s future
DEAR DEIDRE: EVERY night, I lie awake with concerns for my autistic son.
He’s 13, and I’m his 35-year-old mum.
It’s just been us two since he was four years old, so I’m really protective of him.
I’m constantly worrying about what will happen to him when I’m not around any more.
Who will love him and his quirks like I do?
He’s a good boy, but has few social skills and loses his temper really easily.

We also have to follow a very strict routine, with his meals and bedtime at the same time every day.
Every pain or twinge I get causes a mild panic attack, with a fear that I’ll end up abandoning him.
