Woman, 89, mauled by dogs left fighting for life after cops discovered victim when following horror trail of blood
A WOMAN mauled by a pair of dogs in a horrific attack was found when police officers followed a trail of blood.
The 89-year-old who was left fighting for her life was with her 12-year-old grandson in their home’s backyard when they were attacked.
Police were alerted after the brave boy ran to a neighbour’s house for help.
Cops rushed to the scene in Golden, Colorado and found the victim after following a blood trail leading into the family home.
Golden Police Department said they found two dogs attacking the woman in the backyard around 3.30pm on Wednesday.
Police said in a statement: “Officers challenged both dogs verbally and ultimately utilized tasers and less lethal shotguns to attempt to create distance between the victim and dogs.”
The statement added that as officers attempted to approach the victim, “the dogs would circle the officers” and ultimately “less lethal options were not effective”.
As more officers arrived, they were eventually able to hold off the dogs and rescue the woman.
She was treated by paramedics who were waiting in the kitchen and then taken to the hospital with critical injuries.
The woman’s grandson who also suffered serious injuries was treated at a local hospital before being airlifted to a children’s hospital, where he remains in stable condition.

On Thursday afternoon the woman was still in critical condition.
Police said the two dogs “were captured and taken to a local veterinary hospital where they were treated and evaluated.”
One of them was “euthanized due to his injuries” while the other is being held at an animal shelter.
Police are still investigating the incident.
