Emmerdale spoilers: David Metcalfe returns to the village after months away

STORMY weather has hit the Dales and viewers have been kept on the edge of their seats.

But David Metcalfe only witnesses the aftermath of the deadly storm when he comes back to Emmerdale next week.

The shop owner portrayed by Matthew Wolfenden has taken a backseat from all the explosive drama aired on screens.

He most notably left the eponymous village to help his former partner, Alicia Gallagher, after she’d been an accident.

As ITV viewers know, a lot happens in the Dales in a short amount of time, meaning David narrowly escaped many dramatic events, including a deadly storm.

However, in upcoming scenes of the Yorkshire-based soap, David returns to Emmerdale.

Upon his return, he has to deal with the fallout of the storm.

Bernice Blackstock (played by Samantha Giles) is the main resident to help villagers get back on their feet after the destruction caused by the dangerous weather.

She reminds David he will need to start attracting customers again, which only causes him to worry about the setback.

A resourceful Bernice then makes a suggestion to help the village pull together – but how will it work out?

David’s worry is understandable, mostly because of his previous issues with money.

Soap fans may remember that he already faced huge issues following the Covid pandemic and desperately tried to claw himself out of potential bankruptcy.

This led him to sack Kerry Wyatt (Laura Norton) and even try to commit insurance fraud.

He was then willing to take advantage of a traumatised Nicola King (Nicola Wheeler) after a minor collision in the streets of Emmerdale.

Nicola was trying to overcome her anxiety following a brutal mugging – which Naomi Anderson was actually involved in.

Eventually, David’s partner Victoria Sugden (Isabel Hodgins) got involved after finding out how far he was willing to go to keep his finances in check.

Victoria took it upon herself to help him financially and all seemed to be back on track for David.

But could the storm set him back even further?

How will villagers cope after the disaster?
