Sky warns you could be blocked or charged extra for making simple mistake

ANYONE thinking of “doing a Netflix” with Sky’s new Stream service, think again.

The broadcasting giant has warned that it will block anyone that tries to save a few bob by sharing their account with friends or family outside their household.

Sky Stream is a brand new product that allows telly fans to access more than 150 channels via WiFi, doing away with a dish altogether.

Customers can pay a little extra for additional Sky Stream boxes to go in other rooms.

But any crafty subscribers thinking they could lend them to someone outside their home should be aware that Sky has special tools to detect this.

Doing so would be in breach of the terms and conditions you agree to when signing up.

You risk being cut off or even slapped with an extra charge as a result.

“If you or any other person uses any of the TV services or your account anywhere other than your address, you will be in breach of this contract,” Sky states.

“As such, we may either suspend your TV services or charge you an Additional Location Charge for use at that other address based on the price of your subscription at your address.

“We will notify you before taking any action or applying that additional charge to your account.”

Sky says it uses “data received from compatible devices and network
connections you use to access your TV Services” to make sure all Sky products are used in the correct home.

The same rules actually apply to Sky Glass, the company’s other dish-less service.

Account sharing has been a big problem for Netflix, which the company is planning to get a grip on next year.

What is Sky Stream?

Sky Stream is Sky’s new WiFi-enabled TV service which does away with satellite dishes.

This means you can install it yourself without an engineer coming over.

It’s also the first time Sky has offered a subscription-less TV product, with a 31-day rolling plan available.

On an 18-month contract you can get Sky Ultimate TV and Netflix Basic for £26 per month.
