If I marry my girlfriend, I’m going to be marrying her mother too
DEAR DEIDRE: IF I marry my girlfriend, I’m going to be marrying her mother too.
The woman is a control freak who rules the roost and has a say in every part of our lives together.
We are both 26 and met online. My girlfriend has only ever been with me.
I should have run a mile when her mum came to the cinema with us, saying it was a film she wanted to see.
My girlfriend chats to me when she gets a break at work, but when she gets home in the evening she cuts her calls right down because her mother insists on listening in.
She always has tons of chores at home to do, even though her mother, who is 55, doesn’t work.
MORE FROM DEAR DEIDRE
I wanted to take my girlfriend away for a weekend but her mother is telling her she can’t go.
I really think she is the one for me, but I don’t think I can bear her interfering mother.

DEIDRE SAYS: Your girlfriend’s mum is protective of her and wants to keep her at home.
But she is an adult and can make decisions for herself, and she is entitled to a private life, too.
My support pack, Assertiveness, may help your girlfriend to show her mother that she can stand on her own two feet.
