Having kids made our sex life dwindle but now we do it on the kitchen table or over the bathroom sink to spice things up
A STUDY by sex toy brand Ricky has revealed that more than two thirds of adults in the UK have had sex somewhere other than their bed at least once in their lives.
Today, two couples reveal how they “sexplore” the rest of their house.
Ruth Marr, a business analyst, and fiance Jon Higham, 33, a project manager, have sons aged three and ten months.
Ruth, of Swindon, says: “Jon and I used to be adventurous around the house when we first got together in 2018. We christened everywhere – the shower, the sofa and even dining chairs after nights out.
“After having our first child, things seemed to dry up. But since having our second child earlier this year, we have rediscovered that side of us. We realised if we wait until bedtime we are both too tired to make any sexual effort in the bedroom.
“So our favourite place to make love is the kitchen table. It feels adventurous and exciting, we have more fun.

“It was Jon who first initiated it. We’d had friends over for drinks, which put us in a good mood. Once they had left, my eldest was in bed and our youngest was napping.
“So Jon thought it would be the perfect timing. I went to the kitchen to make another drink and he followed.
“Daily, he will stop me getting by him, to get a kiss. So I thought he was just doing that – but he playfully pushed me on to the table. I laughed, thinking he was just messing. But he wasn’t and I was very surprised – pleasantly, as it made me feel wanted.
“It was thrilling that first time, like we’d gone back a few years. It sparked something between us again and now we love it. It makes us both feel extra wanted.

“Adventurous, quick sex in places other than the bedroom is more convenient. We haven’t really done it in the bedroom since so that says it all, really.”
Jon says: “The kitchen is more spontaneous and there’s no need for the build-up you have in the bedroom. Sex is also more frequent.”
‘Against fridge, in hallway or even in the attic’
Lauren Chalke, 39, a recruitment consultant, and husband Phil, 43, a builder, of Southend, Essex, both have children from previous relationships. She is mum to boys aged 10 and 14 and he is dad to girls aged 22 and 20.
She says: “Phil and I have been married for six years.
“When we first became a couple, because of different work schedules Phil would often find himself on the sofa or in the spare room because my youngest, who was eight at the time, would crawl into bed with me.
“So Phil and I started grabbing ‘adult time’ in unusual places like the bathroom to ensure privacy.
“I’ll be cleaning my teeth in the bathroom and he’ll come in and lock the door so we can enjoy a quickie against the sink.
“We turn on the shower and taps to stop the kids hearing and to make them think someone’s trying to wash so they don’t start pounding on the door.
“If we know the kids are out, we’ll have fun in the kitchen, against the fridge, or in the hallway and even up against a beam in the loft.
“If I’m weeding or watering the plants in the garden or Phil is doing some DIY, we enjoy some quality ‘deck time’ as we call it.
“Many couples think the bedroom is the only place to make love but for us it’s best for rest and sleeping.
“It gets boring otherwise, and doing it in other places is more exhilarating and makes you feel young. It’s also something to have a giggle about.”

Phil says: “Mixing things up has made our marriage stronger.
“People should never be ashamed to try an unusual place. It keeps you young at heart, and excitement in the relationship.”
