SNOW is set to hit the UK in the coming weeks, as wet and windy weather is forecast.

The latest long-term forecast, produced by wxcharts, sees wintery spells throughout the coming week, including snow in Scotland and the North West next weekend.

Parts of the country are set to see up to 2cm of snow per hour on Saturday November 19.

At the same time, much of the rest of the UK is braced for heavy rain sweeping across from the West.

Meanwhile, according to The Met Office, a strong jet stream will cause unsettled conditions for much of next week after a brief dry period this weekend.

This end of this week is predicted to be drier and milder than the past few days.

Met Office meteorologist Alex Deakin, giving his ten-day forecast from November 9, said that high pressure will keep temperatures warmer than might be expected at this time of year and restrict rain to the North West.

He said: “For many, the second half of the week looks a lot drier than the first half of the week.

“The winds coming up from the South West [are] bringing mild air as well as some strong gusts, especially over parts of northern England, Scotland and Northern Ireland.”

The mild theme is set to continue into the weekend, with that area of high pressure keeping the weather calm for most of the country.

However, into next week, tropical air will be swept up over parts of the US and Canada by Tropical Storm Nicole.

When this meets the very cold air in the midwestern US, it will lead to an “active jet stream”, which will affect British weather.

Alex continued: “A strong jet stream often leads to an unsettled, usually wet and windy theme with low pressures approaching the UK.

“These low pressures have the potential to become quite volatile bringing some very windy weather to the UK throughout next week so it’s important to keep up to date with the forecast over the coming days.”
