I work on a cruise ship and it’s the easiest way to save loads of money – we don’t pay rent OR for food
AMID the cost of living crisis, covering rent and food bills is becoming increasingly difficult for many.
But one person who doesn’t have to worry is Jody Zimmerman, who works as a cruise ship performer.
Jody has earned herself 10,500 followers on TikTok thanks to her regular videos from on board the ship, and recently answered a question from a follower about what she has to pay for.
“You don’t have to pay for everything whilst you’re on the ship, which is why cruise contracts are very appealing,” she said.
“It’s kind of up to you how much you want to spend.
“There is free food always provided in the crew mess, or canteen, I don’t know why we call it the mess.

“But there is always breakfast, lunch and dinner in there and they also do midnight snacks which is called Midnight Mess.
“Also you don’t have to pay to live on the ship.”
One of the biggest costs is paying for WiFi on board, which costs £3.99 an hour, but they do get free internet between 11pm and 8am.
“Then there is a crew shop where you can get things like toiletries, snacks, as well as the crew bar and coffee shop for coffee and alcohol,” she continued.

“I’d say most crew members do spend a bit on the WiFi and the drinks but as I said, we don’t pay to live here, I’m not paying for any rent back home, so it should really be quite easy to save money.
“I say that now but we will see by the end of the contract.
“Hopefully I will have saved.”
“I never came home with money and there was no Internet until my last contract,” one person commented on the video.
“I would have been screwed.”
“What’s the tax situation on your salary?” someone else asked.

“Are you taxed normally as a regular UK PAYE worker or is there some exemption because you work at sea?”
To which Jody replied: “There’s an option for sea farers tax since I’m out of the UK for over a year, however I still pay tax for my jobs that I’ve worked in the UK.”
