My extreme home makeover has left my house unsellable but I refuse to change it
ARTIST Mary Rose Young has a very quirky style and lives in a £250,000 cottage in Gloucestershire.
But Mary Rose’s home is no ordinary home, every inch of it is covered with bright colours and patterns.
Since buying the property for £30,000 in 1987, the 64-year-old has spent decades decorating the home with polka dot floors and striped ceilings.
Mary Rose Young hit headlines in 2020 after sharing her quirky house which she had struggled to sell in 2014.
Mary Rose said buyers were ‘put off’ by the bright walls and patterned décor.
Not wanting to chase her style Mary decided to stay in her home and use it as a workspace and gallery for her pottery business.

Mary Rose and her husband are like “living in a doll’s house” amongst the spectrum of stripes and spots.
Mary loves colours like bright blue, greens and yellows.
After sharing her news Mary Rose’s inbox was flooded with requests from people across the globe wanting to tour her unusual home with some asking to use it as a backdrop in their music videos.
Alongside her pottery business Mary decided to let her home out on AirBnB so that others can enjoy her creative home.

She told the Mirror “Families have been staying there over the summer and the kids have loved it,” she said.
Mary Rose is proud of having an unconventional home she said: “Painting rooms in my bright colours inspires me – it’s something I can stand back and look at and keep rather than selling to my customers”.

The couple also announced that they have also bought a second home.
And Mary Rose is keeping with tradition giving the second home a bright makeover.
The artist has already installed bright lime green cupboard units fitted with red handles.

And her dining room has a cobalt blue dresser and candy striped walls.
Mary Rose and her husband also plan to rent out their second home once renovations are finished.
