I feel like an outsider since I started my new job

0

DEAR DEIDRE: MY colleagues constantly leave me out and it’s making me feel worthless.

I’m a 30-year-old woman and I recently started a job in an office with a very small team of people.

No matter how hard I try, I always feel like an outsider.

They’re always having a laugh with each other, and make no effort to include me.

Often they will go for drinks after their shifts, but I’m yet to get an invite.

It has started to get me down and make me question my worth.

Ever since childhood, I’ve suffered from low self-esteem because of the lack of love from my parents.

I always felt like I didn’t matter to them. Now I can’t help but worry that I’m completely unlovable.

DEIDRE SAYS: Settling into a new workplace can be a very big adjustment. And it is possible your colleagues can sense you have some resentment.

It’s common to carry feelings of low self-esteem from childhood and it would be worth having counselling.

Contact BACP (bacp.co.uk) who can help you find a counsellor.

My support pack Raising Self-Esteem will help you work through this too.
