Kate Middleton pays touching tribute to mother-in-law Princess Diana at the start of her US tour
KATE Middleton paid a touching tribute to her late mother-in-law Princess Diana at the very beginning of her US tour alongside husband William.
Kate, who was recently appointed the title of The Princess of Wales, stunned as she arrived in Boston, America, to embark upon the three-day tour– but it was her jewellery choice which captured people’s hearts.
The 40-year-old Royal stepped out at Logan International Airport wearing a pair of sapphire and diamond earrings that previously belonged to Prince William’s mum Diana.
The earrings are blue and silver and feature a pretty and intricate two-tier flower design.
Diana was photographed in the statement jewellery piece numerous times, including during a Canada visit in 1991.
The late mum-of-two was also spotted sporting the earrings when she attended the 1996 Met Gala.
It didn’t take long for eagle-eyed Royal fans to spot Kate’s sweet gesture, as they praised her for keeping Diana’s spirit alive.
One wrote on Twitter: “Didn’t Kate look gorgeous in that McQueen suit and those stunning earrings of Diana’s?
“She’s so naturally elegant.”
Another added: “Catherine, Princess of Wales wore these sapphire and diamond drop earrings that belonged to the last Princess of Wales – Kate’s late mother in law Diana, the people’s Princess.
“Some say Kate’s coming into her own & could inherit Diana’s title of People’s Princess.”
This isn’t the first time that Kate, who was wearing a super stylish Royal blue Alexander McQueen suit, has opted to wear the earrings and made a sweet nod to Diana.
Back in June, the mum-of-three wore the sapphire and diamond jewellery piece when she was a guest at Trooping the Colour for the Queen’s birthday.
Kate and William are currently on a short US tour – their first in nearly a decade.
While in America, they will attend the Earthshot Prize Awards, which celebrates five winners who have gone above and beyond for environmentalism.
She’s so naturally elegant
Shortly after touching down in Boston for the event, Prince William shared a moving statement on behalf of him and his wife, where he paid a moving tribute to the Queen.
He said: “On this, our first overseas visit since the death of my grandmother, I would like to thank the people of Massachusetts and particularly of Boston for their many tributes paid to the late Queen.
“She remembered her 1976 bicentennial visit with great fondness. My grandmother was one of life’s optimists. And so am I.
“That is why last year we launched the Earthshot Prize with the ambition to create a truly global platform to inspire hope and urgent optimism as we look to save the future of our planet.”
William continued: “To the people of Boston, thank you. I’m so grateful to you for allowing us to host the second year of the Earthshot prize in your great city.
“Catherine and I can’t wait to meet many of you in the days ahead.”
