I’m 5’2″ & a size XS – I tried Shein’s new celebrity collab, the khaki dress drowned me & another had a NSFW slit
SHEIN is absolutely dominating the fast fashion scene — but how do their clothes really look on?
The U.S. Sun digital producer Carli Rappaport tried pieces from the brand’s MOTF X Brooks Nader collaboration to see how they fit her petite XS figure and was thrilled to find a flattering dress and pants that fit her 5’2″ frame.
First up in the fashion line-up was the 100% Linen Metal Buckled Belted Dress, $59.99, which has a rating of 4.53 out of 5 stars from Shein reviewers.
Unfortunately, there’s usually at least one piece in a shopping haul that doesn’t quite work for a given wearer, and Carli was swimming in the fabric of the khaki-colored dress — even in a size XS.
Cinched on the smallest hole, the belt was also too big for her waist.
“I like the color of it, but there’s also a bazillion buttons and you have to button every single one,” she added.
She was much happier with the Recycled Polyester Fitted Belted Dress, $24.99, which comes in a neutral tan hue and has 4.71 stars from online reviewers.
“This one is more like it,” she said with a smile.
Though the fabric at the very top of the sleeves was a bit too big for her shoulders, the rest of the dress fit her figure and looked “cute.”
Spinning for the camera, she showed what the dress looked like at every angle and gestured to the thigh-high slit on one leg.
“This slit is really slittin’,” she quipped, adding that the sexy detail was “not safe for work.”
“But the actual dress itself is very formfitting,” she said. “I feel comfortable in it.
“I like the way the belt cinches the waist. I feel like it brings everything in, and the arms are pretty nice and formfitting.”
Her one piece of advice is that someone with especially narrow shoulders might need to get the top tailored.
Finally, Carli paired the Viscose Pleated Waist Pants, $29.99, with the Silk Straight Fit Cami, $19.99, in white.
The top comes in eight other colors.
“The pants have these pockets in them, which is really nice,” she said, describing the bottoms as “really cute” and “super light-weight.”
She also likes the outfit as a base for layering, noting that it could be “really cute” with a blazer or sweater added on top.
But perhaps the best part is how well the pants fit — a struggle known all too well to short women.
“So I’m a really short girl and these pants come right to my ankles, so it’s a perfect length for a petite woman,” she said.
The pants and tank top were Carli’s overall favorite outfit. She said: “It’s really cute, it’s got a lot of layering potential.”
