90s girlband centre of bidding war by record labels after staging stunning comeback
SUGABABES are at the centre of a bidding war by record labels after staging the biggest pop comeback of the year.
The original line-up of the Nineties girlband, Keisha Buchanan, Mutya Buena and Siobhan Donaghy, are planning to return to the studio in 2023, which will mark the 25th anniversary of the group’s formation.
I’ve been told that several record labels are vying to work with the trio after an incredible year in which they headlined London’s Mighty Hoopla festival, toured the country and caused chaos at Glastonbury with one of the most in-demand sets of the festival.
A music insider said: “There are lots of Nineties and Noughties acts which reunite and it’s a bit cheesy and full of nostalgia, but the original Sugababes are actually cool, credible artists.
“They have really impressed people at the major labels this year with their voices.
“The reaction from fans proves they are really a viable act to have huge success with new music.
“They have some great ideas for songs and reckon they can win over a whole new generation of Sugababes fans.
“The hope is that they will sign to a label at the beginning of the year and have new music out at some point in the next 12 months.”
The group had a revolving line-up throughout the Noughties but they racked up an impressive 18 Top Ten singles, with six No1s including Freak Like Me, Round Round, Hole In The Head and Push The Button.
On Saturday they surprised fans by uploading to streaming services The Lost Tapes, their unreleased album recorded in 2014 but leaked online before it officially came out.
It has already racked up millions of streams and caused even more excitement about what is to come from the girls.
Next year will see them play their biggest headline show to date at London’s O2 Arena on September 15.
Something tells me they might just have a few new songs to sing by then.

JADE IS ON A (SAUSAGE) ROLL
LITTLE MIX’s Jade Thirlwall proved she hasn’t let fame and fortune go to her head by going back to her Geordie roots and celebrating her 30th birthday this week with a Greggs-themed bash.
As well as a banquet of sweet treats and enough steak bakes and sausage rolls to send me into a food coma, Jade had a two-tier cake in homage to the fast-food favourite with her icing figure on the top.
The bakery giant even provided the singer with a photobooth at the party in her home town of South Shields, Tyne and Wear.
Jade – one third of the most successful British girl group of all time – is enjoying downtime before returning to the spotlight next year.

Looking at her birthday buffet, I can see Jade is already savouring what is to come.

TV Vick’s Shore to help needy
SHE became a household name on Geordie Shore and since then Vicky Pattison has been living the showbiz dream.
But the TV personality has told me after seeing first hand how the cost-of-living crisis is affecting hard-working families she now realises how “vapid” some of her years in the spotlight have been.
Keen to do her bit, I can reveal that Vicky has been quietly volunteering at a soup kitchen over the festive period.
She told me: “It’s always important to give whatever you can but especially now, with the cost of living crisis.
“I’m incredibly grateful for my life and always will be.
“But when I’ve volunteered and you talk to people, you do realise how vapid some of my life has been.
“Things like going to Dubai for New Year’s Eve just aren’t important any more.”
Vicky is searingly honest, hats off to her.
She’s Mad for acting
MADISON BEER is gearing up to release her second album in 2023 but she has another New Year’s wish – to become an actress.
The Good In Goodbye singer has revealed she has had a load of lessons in a bid to make it on to the big screen.
She told me in an exclusive chat: “I’m working on so many things right now but music is obviously the driving force of everything.”
Yet on the prospect of acting, she said: “I would love that. I’ve definitely been trying to work on it and be more open to it.
“I’ve done a lot of acting lessons over the years. I would love to play a more serious role.
“I would love to be in a biopic of some kind. I’m pretty open to whatever but I do want to act.”

MARIAH CAREY’s festive favourite All I Want For Christmas Is You has set a Spotify record for the most plays in a single day.
The Queen of Christmas’s 1994 smash hit was streamed a whopping 21.273million times in 24 hours this month.
The American dive broke the record held by Brit superstar Adele’s Easy On Me, which totted up 19.747million streams in one day in 2021.

HER ex boyfriend, Portugal and former Manchester United footballer Cristiano Ronaldo may have become a sulking prima donna who wouldn’t break into the first 11 for The Dog & Duck, but supermodel Irina Shayk is still in fine form.
The stunner, who has also dated Hollywood A-lister Bradley Cooper, looked sensational in this new shoot for fashion brand Zara – shot by acclaimed photography duo Mert and Marcus.
Fresh from the catwalk in Paris, the mum of one and Bradley were recently seen hand in hand with their five-year-old daughter, Lea De Seine, between them, showing they’re still on good terms despite splitting a couple of years back.

NATHAN’S SICK OF BEING A HIGH FLIER
NATHAN DAWE took more than 100 flights this year to shows all around the world.
But that is proving ever more difficult for him after a horror experience left him praying he would make it back to the ground in one piece.
In an exclusive chat, the DJ and producer, said: “There were a few flights this summer that were a bit dodgy.
“There was one to Italy where the turbulence was awful and everybody was screaming on the plane.
“Me and my team, when we got off the plane we kissed the tarmac and were like, ‘We’re never flying again’ – but of course we did.
“At the start of the summer I was scared.
“I am usually a good flyer but because I had a couple of years off due to Covid, this year doing so many back to back I was always thinking, ‘Have they checked the planes properly? They’ve been sat there for two years doing nothing’.”
Nathan, who has had a stellar year with hits 21 Reasons and Sweet Lies, had a much better experience in October when he met Prince William and Princess Catherine.
They were introduced at an event celebrating the sports charity Coach Core and Nathan, from Burton upon Trent, Staffs, was surprised to learn that fellow Aston Villa supporter William already knew him.
He explained: “I was introduced to Kate and Will and they were very, very nice and humble.
“At the end she went, ‘Don’t forget to go and say hello to Will’, and I thought, ‘Oh my God, does Will know me?’.
“Aston Villa support me massively by playing my music and putting my face all around the stadium and stuff.
“Will goes to a lot of the games so I suppose he couldn’t really miss me. That was quite surreal.”
And he said the down-to-earth royals weren’t fussy about etiquette.
He added: “I was told nothing. I shook Kate’s hand and had a little conversation, there was no pressure on me to do anything.
“It was a special moment.”
