TikToker Harriet (@haz_mosss) is a farmer from Leicestershire, England.

She is about as far removed from the standard image of a farmer as it is possible to get.

You will see no cloth cap, straw-stuffed pockets, or tweed jacket here.

No way: Harriet is part of a new breed of farming.

She is young, pretty, feminine, and likes girly things.

Make-up, fashion, false eyelashes and nails are what’s it is all about for her, and it doesn’t get in the way of her farm work.

But it does make some doubters question her authenticity.

One in particular has riled her so much she has made a video, and it puts him well and truly in his place.

Harriet sits in the cab of her tractor, wearing bright pink overalls.

She captions the video with the offending remark: “Never seen a fake farmer before.”

As a young woman in agriculture, she can’t believe how dated the comment is.

But in a strange way it has forced her to come out and stand up for young female farmers like her.

“The comment that you kindly made on my video,” she says, “I just want to say thank you.”

This rural worker has bags of attitude.

“First and foremost, who actually cares,” she says. “That’s what baffles me.”

She is shocked that in the 21st century such old-fashioned attitudes still exist.

“I didn’t realise people are still so small minded.

“When you tell them you’re a farmer, they don’t’ belive you. I’m used to it.

“So I’m taking it as a compliment,” she says, triumphant.

It might take a while for people to accept that women In farming are no longer restricted to the kitchen, but Harriet is not going to change.

“Fair enough, I don’t look like your typical farmer and that’s alright,” she admits.

“We are in the 21st century, girls like fake nails, fake eyelashes, the pink overals is a thing.”

“And we’re very good at what we do.”

As she winds her post up she remembers a point she wants to make: “Oh, I nearly forgot, I’ve got something in my pocket that I think you would appreciate.”

With a cheeky grin, she draws her fingers into a ‘V’ sign, points them at the camera, and issues a loud raspberry.

Comments to her post loved her rebuff.

Many had similar experiences: “I get this all the time, just because I wear eyelashes and my brows done – it’s called looking after yourself nothing wrong with that.”

Keep up the work said another: “You look great and a credit to the farming industry.”

Ignore the haters, said one: “I reckon he wouldn’t know the difference between a Deer and a Deere.”

You’re a trailblazer said several fans: “Changing the face of farming – it’s not always lonely old men. It’s families, it’s community, it’s people who care and love their animals. You do you.”

Finally, young female farmers are what the industry needs reminded this fan: “Well replied. Couldn’t have put it better myself. You and many others are doing so much good for women in agriculture. Keep it up.”
