I’m a foodie and have the ultimate hack to fix any dish if you put too much salt in it – it costs just 20p too
A FOODIE has shared her simple – but bizarrely useful – trick to saving a dish with too much salt in it.
Mum-of-one Vanessa, who goes by @vnklove on Tik Tok, revealed that a potato is all it takes to save your overly salted dinner.
She said that if she accidentally pours too much salt in a dish, she will add a peeled raw potato to absorb the excess.
This is due to everyone’s favourite carb being rich in starch – a substance that readily absorbs salt.
Vanessa said: “Have you ever accidentally put too much salt in your food and didn’t know what to do?
“I’ve got a trick for you.
“Peel a potato, add it in your soup and let it cook with it.
“The potato is gonna absorb the excess salt.
“Now serve like nothing happened.”
Vanessa’s followers were beaming that the handy tip would save them money and time.
It means that they never have to throw out an over-salted dish and start from scratch again.
The foodie revealed it has been her most watched video on Tik Tok.
A potato in the UK costs around 20p – making this the ultimate budget hack.
What’s more, Vanessa revealed that the potato can be eaten afterwards – and in her house, it’s usually her husband that munches on it.
People flocked to the comments to share their amazement, with many dubbing it “genius”.
One woman affirmed: “Yes because my heavy hand has done this several times.
“Potatoes and any other root vegetable.
“Also use sugar to counteract the salt.”
A second added: “We do that in Afghanistan as well.”
