I can’t keep an erection and Viagra has stopped working
DEAR DEIDRE: IN the middle of sex with my girlfriend last week, I completely lost my erection.
It went so soft, there was nothing either of us could do to get it back.
It was embarrassing and frustrating.
I’m 50, and it’s not the first time this has happened with my 43-year-old girlfriend.
Before I met her, it happened with another woman too.
That time, I thought it was just a one-off, and put it down to me drinking too much or being tired.
Now I’m getting worried. I used to use Viagra quite a lot, and wonder if that’s got something to do with it.
But even taking Viagra doesn’t work for me any more.
This issue is starting to spoil my relationship, as my girlfriend is getting fed up and thinks I don’t fancy her. What can I do?

DEIDRE SAYS: You need to see your doctor to rule out any underlying medical issues.
Lots of things can cause erection problems, and it may be that you need a different strength of Viagra.
Worrying about this is counterproductive.
Sometimes, it can sort itself out if you take penetrative sex off the agenda for a few weeks and instead focus just on touching.
My support pack about Erection Problems has ideas and ways to help.
