I asked my man to set up the balloon arch I ordered for my birthday party… I was mortified when I saw what he’d done
WE’VE all seen Instagram snaps of elaborate balloon arch displays – but one woman found herself with the complete opposite on her birthday.
TikTok user Nicole bought a DIY balloon arch kit online to make her birthday celebrations stand out.
Nicole, whose profile is @nicolelaurenspataro, then explained that she’d asked her partner to put it up for her and was expecting it to look just like it had on the internet.
The social media user explained: “I tasked my fiance with making a balloon arch for my birthday.”
However, after showing a picture of what the rainbow colour themed display was supposed to look like, she then revealed what she had walked into.
The next thing that appeared on the camera was a mismatched array of coloured balloons hanging from her lampshade – and not an arch in sight.
Describing the sight as a total “fail”, Nicole wrote in her caption: “He tried.”
She also added some hashtags, including “#thisiswhatigot #birthdayfail #expectationvreality #balloonfail.”
The video, which has been liked over 71k times on TikTok, also attracted plenty of attention from other social media followers.
One said they saw it coming, as they typed: “I laughed before I even saw the picture.”
A second said: “It’s the hanging on the ceiling fan/light though, for me.”
A third commented: “Honestly!”
As a fourth added: “He didn’t understand the assignment. He’s fired lol”
And others were quick to empathise with her man’s struggle, explaining they or their partner wouldn’t have done much better.
One wrote: “Showed this to my husband and he literally said: ‘What? It looks fine!’”
Another TikTok user commented: “I tried to make one for my son’s graduation.
“It’s a lot harder than it looks!”
One more was in agreement as they wrote: “I mean, he did better than my spouse would and I know mine would really be trying…”
Others also praised him and said he gave it a good go, despite the outcome.
One person said: “I absolutely love this. A for effort!”
Another joined in the conversation, as they chimed in: “What matters is that he tried.
“Best husband award to yours!”
