My neighbours said they’d sue me if I touched the top of our joint hedge – so I got creative and they can’t say a word
A MAN has shared how he got around the strict rules his neighbour had set for the hedge in between their gardens.
TikTok user @justgardens claimed that his next door neighbour threatened to “sue” him if he touched the top of the bush.
The neighbour revealed what had happened between him and those that live next door[/caption] He decided to take matters into his own hands[/caption]However, it quickly became a problem when the shrubbery started to become overgrown and in need of a trim.
Therefore, @justgardens took action – and got creative so that they didn’t have grounds to complain.
Alongside a video of him using an electric hedge cutter on his half of the hedge, he wrote: Neighbous said they’d SUE me if I touched their topside.”
He then showed how he was stopping just shy of the top of the bush, leaving that for them to cut.
@justgardens then added: “So I left it like this.”
They added in the caption: “WHAT will the neighbours say now?”
While there wasn’t much they could say, as he’d stuck to the strict rules in place, his tactic certainly got the social media user’s 31.9k followers talking.
The video racked up over 80,000 likes and thousands also went to the comment section to have their say.
A fellow TikTok user wrote: “Tell them you will sue if their side starts to hang over your side.”
A second person joined the conversation, as they added: “People get so territorial with their hedges and trees.
“Perhaps they should keep it cut back.”
While another social media user added: “If it’s over your property line and they don’t take care of it then it’s tough luck.”
Others were also shocked that the neighbours had had the cheek in the first place.
One person pointed out: “Anything that hangs on your side, you can cut or whatever.
“As long as it doesn’t damage the overall health of the plant/tree.”
A second said: “You are allowed to cut back anything your side and anything overhanging your side.”
While another person joked that while the tall hedge was causing him problems, it could well be a blessing in disguise.
They commented: “I would love a hedge that tall to block out my awful neighbours.”
He made sure they would have nothing to say[/caption]
