Fans of the programme were introduced to Wendy and Gwyneth on their quest to find a suitable playmate for their 10 year old nephew, Mitchell.

Tragically, Mitchell’s parents were taken ill early on in his life and as a result his aunties had adopted him five years previously.

Having always expressed a longing for a brother, the family decided to head to The Dog House to see if they could find someone for Mitchell to have as a best bud.

When choosing the perfect dog, they wanted something that would match Mitchell’s energy and outgoing personality with his aunties admitting to the camera: “Mitchell has got a lot of energy”.

The family settled on a Jack Russell as it was a ‘fast’ dog that would perfectly complement Mitchell and his strengths.

Earlier on in the show, viewers watched as one year old Jack Russell Rosie was brought to The Dog House after she was shunned by her two cat siblings at her first home.

Desperate to play, Rosie was left saddened when the cats showed no love for her back.

But Rosie looked like she had met her match in Mitchell as she immediately ran over to him when they were first introduced as they both looked eager to finally have someone else that they could play with.

Mitchell ran around and played with Rosie as he told his aunts: “We are definitely getting this dog.”

Reflecting on Mitchell’s upbringing and their decision to get Rosie for him, his aunties said on the show:

“It is totally different now, totally brilliant.

“You have to know a lot about pop culture and superheroes. We knew it would be life-changing.

“This little person relies entirely on you for pretty much everything.

“It is quite confusing for him to live with an aunt and her partner.

“He has had to deal with a lot of loss in his life and he feels there’s something missing.”

Viewers were left in tears at the happy ending as they were left over the moon that Mitchell and Rosie had been able to find what they had so desperately craved.

Writing online, one viewer penned:  “These incredible aunties stepping up and adopting their nephew bless him.”

Another gushed: “Looks like Rosie isn’t just getting a home, but a brother too.

“Just feel this is going to have a happy ending. Going to end in tears though- Mine !#thedoghouse”

A third sobbed as they wrote: “I can’t cope with Mitchell and his aunties [crying emoji] hopefully Rosie is the one!”

Whilst a fourth added: “Adopted kids adopting doggos is always special.

“So glad Mitchell has his aunts (hope that ameliorated some parental trauma for him that kids adopted by strangers may get) and glad for them he’ll hopefully get a pupper to burn some of that energy and intellect #TheDogHouse.”
