I’m giving my son a Texas-themed name – strangers hate it and beg me to ‘give my kid a chance’
REDDIT users lashed out when they heard a Western-inspired baby name.
A father admitted he and his wife had plans to give their newborn son a Texas-themed name, and strangers said they hated it.
Two parents admitted they wanted to name their son Kowboy, and Reddit users said it was a bad idea[/caption]In a Reddit post by Monistar 97 (@monistar97), one 37-year-old father revealed the moniker he wanted for his son.
The father wrote: “Kowboy as a first name?”
“The wife and I are expecting a little boy soon. We’re thinking of naming him Kowboy (we live in Texas) with Jasen as a middle name.”
He gave a list of other possibilities he and his wife were considering: Dennis, Ezekiel, and Kolton.
Though the excited dad asked for advice from others, he didn’t get the positive feedback he may have been hoping for.
Monistar 97 said: “I’ve never had anything worthy of posting here, but this one really stopped me in my track.”
Other Reddit users agreed this was worthy enough to speak about.
And they shared their harsh opinions.
“Anything but cowboy. Give the kid a chance in middle school. And high school. And getting a job,” a blunt individual said.
“Your other names are good. Lean in that direction.”
Another person pointed out: “What’s so wrong with spelling things like a normal human being? Your attempts to gather cool points are going to get Kowboy Jasen beat up.”
“It sounds like a screen name on Farmers Only,” a reader admitted.
An intuitive individual noted: “They’re all names associated with the Dallas Cowboys, so they may just be crazy football fans!”
One person in disbelief admitted: “This has to be a troll. No way this is real.”
“Yeah, I’ve lived in Texas and some other states too, never met a Kowboy or even a cowboy,” another viewer added.
A critic wrote: “No, I think it’s time to offend some people. You can’t condemn that kid’s childhood to hell because you want to be unique.”
