I’m a dog groomer with a poodle but I always wanted a dalmatian – so I took a drastic step that’s dividing opinion

A DOG groomer dramatically transformed her fluffy white Poodle into a Dalmatian – but the process proved to be controversial.

In a video shared on TikTok by @galactic.beauty, Nova’s owner showed how she managed to create her dream pooch.

But by the end of the session, the ‘Dalmatian’ looked happy with the results[/caption]

Nova settled down to prepare for her new look, while her mum mixed some black dye.

The video had several captions, including: “All dye products used are Opawz brand and made specifically for pets.

“A few heart shaped spots for Valentine’s Day.

“Be super careful using dye around eyes, I always leave a 1/2 inch space around eyes.

“Don’t forget snacks and comfy towels to lay on.

“Rinse until water runs clear. Shampoo to remove excess dye.

“Dry completely with force dryer, finish with brushing and sugar cookie pet cologne.”

The groomer even added a festive bandanna to accessorise the pup – who proudly showed off her new style with a few twirls.

“She looks amazing and she knows it.”

The transformation received raving reviews, with many fellow TikTokers joking the “Dalmatian Doope” was the cutest they’d seen.

In support, one commented: “I love that you’re so well educated and safe when using dyes. You’re great at keeping your dog safe and of course happy.”

To which Nova’s owner replied: “Thank you! Nova deserves the world and her comfort/happiness is my number one priority, she’s the only dog I’ve ever met that actually enjoys baths!”

“That turned out more adorable than I though it would”, wrote another.

“I am literally obsessed omg”, agreed a third.

Someone else posted: “You did a wonderful job! This is so cute!”

There were a couple of negative comments, such as: “I would hate to do that to my dogs! I love them the way they are.”

“How do you find out if your dog wants to dye their hair?” said another.

Experts have divided opinion on dyeing your dog’s fur, animal charity PETA discourages it and branded it “nonsensical.”

However, WashPaw, a professional grooming service claimed it is safe as long as pet-friendly hair dye is used.

This was backed up by Dr. Jeff Smith, medical director at Danville Family Vet in Virginia.

It is vital to use products specifically designed for your type of pet to avoid chemical burns and harmful toxins.

Another dog owner caused controversy when she dyed her dog bright red.

TikTok user Chloe, who runs the @danthebigreddog account, shared why she decided to change the colour of her 130-pound Great Pyrenees Dandy.

She uploaded a series of videos called “Reasons why I dye my dog red” and explained that first of all she thinks Dandy “looks so adorable in red”.

She explained: “Dyed dogs are less likely to get stolen as they are easily identifiable.”

The owner also claimed the products she used have made Dandy’s fur softer and it sheds less.

This comes as many people across the globe have joined in with the new phenomenon.

Shocked local residents in the village of Monastir, near the city of Sochi in south-western Russia, called the police when they spotted a street trader offering photos with a panda.

But officers who were rushed to the scene to rescue the endangered animal found that its owner had pulled off a cunning trick.

The animal was actually a fluffy Chow Chow dog the scammer had dyed with a panda’s markings.

And, in Chengdu, south-western China, a “panda ” cafe raised eyebrows when it opened to the public.

Chengdu is known as the home of giant pandas and this cafe offered tourists the opportunity to spend time with six “panda cubs”.

However, upon closer inspection, it became obvious the animals were dyed Chow Chow dogs.

The owner of the cafe, Mr Huang, previously said that his business even offered locals a dyeing service for their pooches.
