Schoolboy pedestrian, 12, dies after being hit by a van as man, 67, arrested for ‘causing death by careless driving’

A SCHOOLBOY pedestrian has died after being hit by a van.

It’s understood the 12-year-old was walking when the white Iveco collided with him in Redruth, Cornwall.

He was sadly pronounced dead at the scene on Monday.

The young boy’s family are being supported by specialist family liaison officers

A man, 67, has since been arrested on suspicion of causing death by driving without due care and attention.

The pensioner was also arrested on suspicion of driving whilst unfit.

Cops were called around 3.35pm to the A3047 Agar Road junction with Wilson Way.

The force are now appealing for witnesses.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: “Officers are calling for any witnesses or anyone who has any information or dashcam footage that could help with enquiries, to come forward.

The road was reopened around 1am on Tuesday.
