I compared basic food items at Lidl and M&S to see what the prices were like – I was stunned by the results
A WOMAN has been left stunned after comparing the prices of basic products at Marks & Spencer and Lidl.
Kat took to TikTok to share a video, writing over the top: “LIDL vs M&S price comparison, basics edition!”
She began with a 1kg bag of carrots, which retails for 50p in both stores.
Cucumbers are also the same price in both shops, at 75p each, as well as a 2 pint bottle of milk, which is £1.30 in both.
Next up was chicken legs – £2 per kilogram in Marks & Spencer, and £2.09 per kilogram in Lidl.
But perhaps one of the biggest surprises was packets of microwave rice, which were 99p in Lidl but just 65p in M&S.
“Are you surprised?” Kat added in her video caption.
And lots of people in the comments section admitted they weren’t surprised, as they’re devoted M&S shoppers.
“I HAVE BEEN SAAAAAAYING THIS! Everyone judges me for shopping at M&S,” one wrote.
“Can I finally become an M&S girlie?” another asked.
“IVE BEEN TELLING EVERYONE M&S AINT THAT EXPENSIVE, AND ITS THE BEST SUPERMARKETTTT,” a third commented.
“Basically M&S is the cheapest!!” someone else said.
“Been saying for the longest M&S prices are better compared to others and the quality is clear,” another wrote.
“Keep it up m and s. I’m a convert to your Stevenage store. It’s amazing,” someone else commented.
“and the m&s stuff tastes better and lasts 6 times as long,” another agreed.
But others insisted Kat’s comparison wasn’t fair in the rice department, as she’d chosen one of the more expensive rice packs in Lidl.
“The Lidl own brand micro rice is like 30p,” one wrote.
“This is not a fair comparison you chose branded rice in Lidl Vs unbranded in m&s,” another added.
“I’ve never paid more than 30p for carrots there and 50p for cucumber.”
“There is way cheaper packet rice in lidl for 35p DONT BE TRICKED,” someone else said.
