WGC Dell Technologies Match Play betting: Get the best tips, odds, and betting offers

0

IT’s time for some cut-throat golf, with 64 of the world’s top players going toe-to-toe in Texas for the Dell Technologies World Match Play title, and a cool $3.5million top prize

This will be the last staging of the Match Play – at least for the foreseeable future – which is a crying shame, considering how much drama it throws up.

There will be plenty of giant-killing acts, with players from outside the game’s top fifty taking down the big stars.

That has certainly been the case in the past. Defending champion and world No 1 Scottie Scheffler was ranked fifth when he won a year ago – but he was the first player from inside the top 30 of the world rankings to take the title for five years.

Trying to figure out where the upsets could happen is half the fun of betting on the Match Play, where the players are divided into 16 groups of four, with each player taking on the other three over 18 holes

The format offers a point for each win, and half a point for a tied match.

There will inevitably be groups where at least two players finish level, and have to do battle in sudden death shoot-outs to reach the final 16, where it becomes a straight knockout.

The 16 highest ranked players are seeded and kept apart, in the group stages. But it is rare to see even half of the big guns justify their rankings and make it through to the knockout stages.

So don’t be afraid to go with a big outsider. ANYTHING can happen in Match Play…..

How to bet on the Dell World Match Play

Betting on golf is easier than you’d image and there are a host of interesting markets you can pick from.

Here are five easy steps for beginners.

1. Choose Your Favorite Sportsbook – there are plenty to choose from and most have their own app or mobile site.

2. Make a Deposit – each sportsbook will walk you through how to connect your bank account to their system including providing a list of all the safeguards they have set up to ensure the safety of your transactions.

3. Claim Your Bonuses – most sportsbooks offers bonuses to first time bettors in the form of free bets.

4. Place Your Bet – now it’s time to navigate through your sportsbook’s odds where they will offer a variety of options including outright winners, or top finishing positions, such as top 10 or 20, or even to make the cut. For the event this week each way odds are generally paid on the top eight players.

5. Collect Your Winnings – If you’re successful you will be able to withdraw your winnings once the bet is complete. Some bookmakers offer cashout options on certain bets as well, which is worth keeping an eye on.

Top tips for betting on the Dell World Match Play

A good way to hedge your bets in the Match Play is to start by trying to find four or more players who look capable of winning their groups, and combining them in a multiple bet, such as a Yankee/Super Yankee or Lucky 15/31.

And it is not always the obvious players who offer the best value.

Many people will see Scheffler as a good bet to retain his trophy, especially after his impressive victory in the Players Championship a couple of weeks ago.

He is the bookies favourite at around 8-1, but the draw has done him no favours. His group also includes rising star Tom King, Ryder Cup warrior Alex Noren, and outsider Davis Riley.

Riley played well for 36 holes at the Valspar last week before fading over the weekend. If he gets hot for just one round against Scheffler, it could be enough to cause an upset. So Group One is a tough proposition.

It is worth remembering Scheffler lost to Tommy Fleetwood in last year’s group stages, and had to survive a play-off with another Englishman, Matt Fitzpatrick, after they both won two of their three matches to share top spot.

The American finally saw off Fitzpatrick at the SIXTH extra hole. So even though he romped through the knockout stages in impressive fashion, Scheffler could easily have failed to reach the last 16.

With his Masters defence just two weeks away, Scheffler could also be distracted. And with Rory McIlroy struggling for consistency, Jon Rahm – an 11-1 shot – could be the best bet among golf’s Big Three.

Back Jon Rahm with bet365 here

I like the look of Rahm to win Group 2 at odds of around 5-4, and my other main fancies are Tyrrell Hatton in Group 14 (7-5), Kurt Kitayama in Group 10 (16-5), Ryan Fox in  Group 7 (3-1) and Chris Kirk in Group 8 (7-2).

The in-form Hatton – fourth at Bay Hill and runner-up to Scheffler at Sawgrass – is a top priced 28-1 to win the whole thing, with Kitayama priced up around 80-1, and Kirk and Fox both available at 100-1.

They could reward each way interest, especially with some bookies going top eight. Those only offering a miserly four places really need to think again.
