A CLEANING whizz has shared her cheap solution for houseflies, and not only does it smell amazing, but it’s also only 90p.

Commenting on a Facebook post, the woman shared her ingenious hack for repelling those pesky flies during the warm weather.

The woman asked: “Loads of flies everywhere in my house. How do I get rid of them? Thanks.”

The cleaning whizz replied: “Fresh mint. The stuff you grow in pots. Flies and ants hate it.”

And the fresh smelling herb sells for as little as 90p in Asda and other supermarkets.

And there’s some backing to the unconventional solution – a pest control expert told The Express herbs and spices do repel certain bugs.

Jordan Foster from Fantastic Pet Control said: “Some herbs and spices, including basil, mint, rosemary, and cloves, repel flies with their strong aromas.

“Flies tend to avoid mint because of its strong scent, particularly spearmint and peppermint.”

Other Facebook users suggested using fresh basil – it smells just as good and works wonders for flies.

Jordan shared another fly banishing hack last month – it’s under £5 and smells amazing.

The pest expert said vinegar-soaked cotton balls work wonders in eliminating the winged insects.

Boots sell 100 cotton balls for £1.38 – and Wilko sells a 1L bottle of white vinegar for a bargain £1.25.

He also said essential oils dripped onto cotton balls can help.

Speaking to The Express, he explained: “The strong scent of essential oils such as peppermint, eucalyptus, lavender, and citronella repels flies.

“Using these oils in diffusers, sprays, or soaking cotton balls and placing them in areas where flies are a nuisance will help eliminate them.”

Peppermint and lavender oil can be bought for just £2.25 on Amazon.

Eucalyptus oil is £1.79 on eBay while popular bug-repellent citronella ranges from £1.45 for a 10ml bottle of oil at Online Pound Shop to £11.79 for a 750ml spray bottle on Amazon.

Jordan says white vinegar also works well when mixed with water and sprayed onto surfaces – stopping flies from lingering.
