JON Kay was forced to apologise to BBC Breakfast fans after backlash to an ‘utterly ridiculous’ report.

Tuesday’s show saw Jon and co-host Sally Nugent back in the BBC Breakfast studios covering the latest news and topics.

At one point, the pair fronted a segment about clouds and shared pictures of different ones taken by members of the public which they thought looked like something else.

One was shaped like a dog while another resembled a T-Rex, as well as one that looked like the number 22.

Sally, 51, said: “There’s a really clever one coming up next, wait for this one. This is… Are you ready?”

But as the picture failed to appear on screen, she awkwardly added: “Coming up any second now…”

Jon, 53, said: “It will be worth it” and Sally responded: “It’s so good, I think we’re going to save it for later as a special surprise one.

“But I don’t think anything can beat that heart.”

But Jon then put his foot in it as he said: “Yeah we’re going to see a swan later.”

Sally immediately scolded him and said: “You’ve given the game away!”

Jon quickly apologised to Sally and viewers, saying: “Oh sorry!” but it was too late for some viewers, who were already kicking off about the “boring” segment on Twitter.

One wrote: “Slow news day.”

Another added: “Slow news day on #BBCBreakfast as they want pictures of clouds that look like objects.”

A third raged: “Moving on from the horrific murder of two police officers… on to A Cloud that looks like a Dog…

“No honestly this is @BBCBreakfast…utterly ridiculous.”
