I’m a plumber – three ways to unblock drains with kitchen cupboard items for as little as 50p
THERE’S no cleaning job as disgusting as trying to get your sink drains unclogged.
If you don’t have a plunger to try and shift it, then you’re in for a bad time.
Fortunately, a plumber has revealed three easy tricks to remove clogs without using a plunger.
And the best part? You probably already have everything you need at home already.
Bathroom experts at Victorian Plumbing have revealed the top three ways to unblock trains and get water moving again.
Speaking to the Express, the plumber first recommended using baking soda and white vinegar.
Both are staples when it comes to cooking and cleaning, so we bet you already have them in your kitchen.
Add three teaspoons of baking soda into the drain and slowly pour in 500ml of white vinegar. Leave the solution for five minutes so that they can react and begin to “break down” any buildup.
Whilst the solution breaks down any buildup, fill a kettle and pour the boiling water down the blocked sink to flush the blockage.
You can repeat this process if needed.
Next, the experts recommended biological washing powder.
They said: “Using washing powder to unblock a sink is a great technique due to the enzymes it contains.
“These enzymes are used to break down fats, oils and grease in your clothes, which is why it can be used to unblock your sink.”
Use three teaspoons of powder and immediately flush it through with boiling hot water.
You can buy 2.6kg of washing powder for just £4.75 in Tesco meaning the hack will cost under 50p each time.
Lastly, the cleaning pros recommended using the painkiller Alka-Seltzer to to unblock drains in minutes.
Pop two tablets into the plug hole and follow with 500ml of white vinegar to lift tough grease and buildup from the pipes.
Give this another five minutes to take effect and then flush it through with another full kettle of boiling water. Again, repeat this if it is needed.
