A FAMILY of seven has revealed they are living in a tent because they can’t find a home.

The mum, who lives in Gisborne, New Zealand, revealed the family were made homeless because of a lack of affordable housing.

Now the matriarch, her husband, and tots are camping in nature to make ends meet.

In one TikTok clip she wrote: “Eight days until our family of seven are homeless living in a tent.”

The mum then showed off the family’s new home which included several tents being pitched up in a field.

She revealed her 12 and eight-year-old children were sharing one tent between them.

Next to the tent was another that hosted the mum, dad and their three younger children aged five, three and two.

The tents were kitted out in wooden furniture to organise the family’s clothes and even had bedframes and mattresses to sleep on unlike your typically camping experience.

The New Zealander revealed that her family would be staying in the tent until the family had built their own tiny home on the land, owned by her mum.

she revealed that this was caused by the renting crisis in New Zealand which has made renting difficult for many people in the country.

“Our family of 7 living in a tent because of the housing shortage, while we renovate a tiny home/ rundown old batch,” she captioned the post.

The video posted to the mum’s account @life_with_fiv3 has since gone viral with other 100k views and over 4,000 likes.

Plenty of people were quick to share their thoughts in the comments section of the post, and many were shocked by the living conditions the family had been forced into.

One person wrote: “Very sad for the kids involved in this.”

“My kids actually loved it, brought us closer together as a family,” said the mum.

Another commented: “Those some nice spacious tents y’all not on top of one another.”

“You’re so awesome, Any mom would have done this. But to share your experience on here, is heart melting. as long you guys are all together,” penned a third.

Meanwhile a fourth said: “This is actually a really nice set up.”

Someone else added: “Home is where you are.”
