We’re interior designers and these are the biggest home icks – it’s bad news if you love black and white portraits
INTERIOR experts have weighed in on what their biggest home icks are – and it’s bad news if you love a black and white portrait of London.
With DIY growing rapidly since lockdown, people are always looking for new ways to revamp their home on a budget.
But some of your favourite homeware and design choices might just be out of fashion, according to the experts.
Interior experts at Vinterior, a pre-owned furniture shop, shared their home icks in a TikTok video.
Among the design choices bashed were crystal door knobs, ‘Keep Calm’ signs and toilet mats that wrap around the base of the bowl.
Particularly, signs that read “Keep Calm and Drink Gin” were given a no-go label.
One interior expert at Vinterior said feature walls are her biggest ick.
Feature walls are singular walls decorated differently from other ones in the room.
They are incorporated to add a pop of colour and divide areas of the room, but people have recently been debating whether they’re now out of fashion after a two-decade reign.
Black and white photos of London, with a red accent of a bus or a phonebox, were also deemed ick-worthy.
Vinterior posted the opinions on its TikTok profile – but there was one ick everyone disagreed with.
Viewers jumped to defend crystal doorknobs, dubbing them “elegant”.
“I live in a 1930s house, everything original,” one woman defended. “Crystal door knobs on every door.
“It’s so charming!”
“Crystal doorknobs in historic homes are awesome!” another echoed.
However, bosses at Vinterior added a disclaimer in the caption of the video.
“We’re all about everyone finding their own interior style so, at the end of the day, you do you,” it reads.
