Proud mum shows off kids’ Lidl snack haul that saves £138 in lunch money – but people are making the same rude remark
A PROUD mum has revealed how she’s managed to save £138 in lunch money for her children, but trolls all had the same thing to say about it.
Taking to social media, the woman shared a photo of a bed with pink sheets on it, over which she’d laid out a huge selection of treats.
Viewers could see Maryland cookies, Raisin boxes, mini iced rings, Oreo packets, Toffee crisps, Frosties cereal bars and much more.
In the caption, she shared her hopes that her hack could save others money on a weekly basis, too.
She said: “Anyone else like myself & fed up of topping the kids school money accounts up for snacks at break time… costing anything from £5-10 a week each (my boys are lucky if they can get 2 things for just under £2).
“I started this before my youngest went up to secondary before it got to costly!”
She then shared how she only spent a total of £42 on the assortment of chocolates and sweets laid out on her bed.
The mum said that she allows her kids to choose three things out of the lot every day before they leave for school instead of putting money into their accounts.
She shared: “This will last 9 weeks in total, working out at £4.66 for both/£2.33 each a week!!
“Meaning if you were to top 2 children up at £10 each a week would be costing £180 (9weeks) £5 each a week would be costing £90 (9weeks).
“Doing what I have is saving anything from £48-138 over the course.”
The woman, who posted in the Facebook group Extreme Couponing & Bargains UK group, revealed that she buys the snacks from Lidl, Aldi, B&M and ASDA offers so long as it’s cheaper than the original brand at the time of purchase.
“I do however lose on storage in my room as if I were to leave them out they’d last a week with pre-teen/teenager living here,” she added.
While many were left impressed with her savvy tip, others were left dumbfounded by the number of treats she allows her kids to have on a daily basis.
One person said: “So MuCh SuGaR,” followed by a shocked emoji, while another shared: “3 a day!”
Another wrote: “I’d have definitely came home high and scranned the lot”.
A fourth rudely said: “Diabetes here we come….” which received many angry reactions, while a fifth added: “3 things a day? Why do children need so much sweets?”
But others came to her rescue as one person hit back: “I’m howling at how shocked some people think 3 snacks a day is alot, clearly haven’t got children like mine that think they’ll pass out if they haven’t got a snack every half a hour, the perfect mums get me everytime with their bannanas and apples you do realise some kids don’t like fruit right,” followed by a crying with laughter emoji.
Another said: “If you look closely most of these are snack size and under 100cals so there ya go”.
And a third shared: “I dont blame you! What a great saving.
“I find farmfoods is good for snacks too and they often post discount coupons. So if you bulk bought with a coupon it’s an even better saving.”
