I live in a council house and there’s so much stigma – trolls call it a s***hole but an easy tip makes it look so nice
AFTER receiving a horrible comment on social media over living in a council house, one woman decided to hit back.
Irene regularly uses her channels to share updates on her home as well as nifty tips and tricks to elevate the interior of any home.
But when one person hit out at her living situation, she simply couldn’t believe it.
“I thought council houses where basically free,” one person wrote. “That’s why they where council.
“Becaue they where s***holes that no one would buy”.
Appalled by the comment left on one of her clips, she wrote: “Lot of stigma around council houses. Even in the 21st century???”
People were equally frustrated by the comment as one person wrote: “free, free lol what planet you on,” to which Irene replied: “i thing he is on jupiter lol,” followed by a crying with laughter emoji.
Another said: “Council house and ha aren’t free we still have to pay rent”.
While a third shared: “I pay more than some private rents as mine is a new build,” to which she replied: “I know right, people are just ignorant”.
According to Shelter England, councils and housing associations can charge either social rent or affordable rent.
Irene, known on TikTok as @iradecor3, has previously shared her hacks to improve her council home too.
In a short clip, she wrote: “Things that have helped me improve my council home that you should implement to improve your decor…”
She then showed off the windows at the front of her home, where she switched out her curtains.
“Long curtain. You can add curtain tieback,” she wrote over this.
One person, impressed, commented: “You’ve such a beautiful home xxx,” to which Irene replied: “Thank you so much. Lovely comment this morning”.
And in another clip she confessed that her “problem” is that she “always wants it clean” in her home as she went over all the bathroom surfaces with a cloth.
In another tip-oriented video, she recommended: “Keep colours light to keep the room as bright as possible.”
Her second tip was to add an accent colour to the room with accessories, while her third trick was to use large mirrors to reflect the light, which makes a room appear bigger.
She also recommended people add three sources of light to the room.
