Quality Streets slashed to £2.25 a box in Asda & shoppers have a nifty way to get around the November best before date
CHRISTMAS might be over, but Quality Streets are enjoyable all year round.
So it’s little wonder that shoppers are racing to Asda to nab boxes of the chocolates after they were slashed to just £2.25.
And while they have an expiry date of November 2024, savvy shoppers have figured out a way around that[/caption]Someone took to the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK group on Facebook to share a picture of the discounted boxes all stacked up in their local supermarket.
“Quality Street £2.25 at Asda Retford,” they wrote, adding that they had an “expiry date of Nov 2024”.
While you might think that the expiry date rules out having the chocolates for Christmas this year, others said they’d come up with a nifty way to get around that.
“Nov 2024, bet they will last a lot longer if stored properly,” one shopper wrote in the comments section.
To which another replied: “Yep – freeze them!”
According to the Real Simple website, the best way to freeze chocolates like Quality Streets is to first place them in a freezer-safe airtight container or bag and put them in the fridhge.
This reduces the temperature shock to the product, which can affect the taste and texture.
Once they’ve been in the fridge for 24 hours, you can put them in the freezer.
And when it comes to defrosting the chocolates, you just do the same in reverse order.
So move them from the freezer to the fridge for 24 hours, and then take it out of the fridge so it can slowly return to room temperature and be ready to eat.
“Our asda got rid of these and roses tins on boxing day at that price,” someone else commented on the Facebook post.
“I did check the date to see if they would last till next year!”
“Need!” another insisted.
As a third advised: “It’s not an expiry it’s a best before”, meaning that you can still eat the chocolates beyond the November 2024 date.
Not everyone was impressed by the Asda bargain though, with one raging: “Not even £2 worth of sweets inside!”
