Coronation Street fans blast soap bosses for ‘dumbing down’ character – ranting ‘he’s a complete joke now!’
CORONATION Street fans have been left raging at the soap’s producers for their character development and have taken aim at their ‘dumbing down’ of one particular individual.
Viewers of the ITV soap opera feel as though Brian Packham’s baffoonish personality has gone too far and been stretched to its limits.

Played by Peter Gunn, Brian has found himself as the boss at The Kabin following his exit from being the headteacher at the local primary school, Bessie Street.
Whilst always noted for his outlandish ways and his atypical behaviour for a headteacher, it seems as though show bosses have cranked up his lack of common sense up a notch for ‘comedy value’.
Recent stories for Brian have seen him discover a ‘long-lost’ cousin and be conned into letting her stay with him for months on end while her home underwent renovations in Italy.
It showed him treading on eggshells around her as he struggled to make it known that she had become an unwelcome presence in his home life.
Fans have been left unconvinced that the ‘real’ Brain would be like this especially given that he dealt with unruly children for years.
It has raised questions as to the poor development of his character and his ‘lost’ personality.
One fan even said show bosses had turned him into a new Kirk.
Taking aim online, one Coronation Street fan said: “Complete joke of a character and not even a funny one.
“This guy was supposedly a headteacher, but has been dumbed down to Kirk’s level.”
Another went on to say: “I actually think Brian Packham came in as a decent character and the actor is ok. Hes like Steve McDonald in the sense its the current producer who has turned him into a joke.”
Before a third raged: “Brian – he’s clearly been brought in to The Kabin as a Norris replacement but he’s got none of the charm of Norris and unlike Norris he never seems to have a story.”
Brian has struck up a close bond with Mary Taylor over the past year and the duo have enjoyed some comedic scene with one another.
He has also been a support to Evelyn Plummer and Roy Cropper throughout their trials and tribulations.
