Mum’s 30p hack to get rid of mould on her bathroom grout works wonders, and also makes it ‘so much whiter’
DO you ever get fed up with having mould on your bathroom grout?
A mum has shared her genius 30p cleaning hack which not only removes mould and mildew but also leaves it “so much whiter” than before.
The best part of the trick is that she didn’t need to buy any new products, but just headed to her kitchen.
The cleaning lover shared on The Plumbette website how she had used a lemon to tackle the issue.
She explained: “I had noticed that the outer rim of our bath in the girls’ bathroom had started to grow mould in the grout and I thought I’d give it a squeeze of lemon juice to see if it would get rid of the mould.
“When it comes to natural cleaners I have had mixed results. I have tried the whole bicard soda and vinegar action and it’s not a cleaning routine I’ve maintained.
“Sometimes it’s cost me more than the Dettol or Spray and Wipe that I use because I often shake a whole box of soda in one cleaning product.”
The mum explained how she had cut one lemon and squeezed the juice along the grout.
She then let it sit for 10 minutes to work its magic.
The woman continued: “I used a damp cloth to clean away the juice and most of the mould went and the grout was a lot whiter than it was before.
“Unfortunately, there were still mould marks in the silicone section which means the mould is in the silicone and the only way to get rid of it is to remove that silicone and re-apply around that the bath.”
Lemons are effective for cleaning as they contain citric acid, which works as an antibacterial and antiseptic
And on top of this, they leave a refreshing scent when squeezed.
Some people use them by themselves, or pair the juices with baking soda to form a paste.
After the grout has been coated, you can scrub it away with a toothbrush to remove any discolouration.
You can pick one up for around 30p in Tesco, which can be cheaper than other anti-mould products being sold.
Lynsey Crombie, the Queen of Clean, says lemons can also be used to clean everything from your grubby oven to limescale in your shower too.
Sharing a clip on her Instagram, the cleaning mum said that not only does the acid in the lemon work well to remove stubborn marks, but it will leave your home smelling amazing.
“Add the refreshing invigorating smell of lemons to your home,” she said. “I love love love cleaning with lemons.”
“There’s so much you can do with them.”
Firstly, Lynsey shows how you can get your microwave spotless by slicing up the citrus fruit and putting them in a bowl of water.
Let the microwave run for five minutes on high before wiping over the area with a cloth and you’ll see just how easy it is to clean.
Lynsey revealed: “The lemon release grease and grime and makes it easy to remove with a damp cloth.”
Lemon is also the most effective way to get your chopping board spotless, and it’s a sure way to remove germs and bacteria.
Sprinkle some salt on the surface area before rubbing half a lemon over the top, then give it a rinse to clean off any residue.
