CORONATION Street fans have been left horrified after two residents came to blows in a brutal assault ending in a botched arrest.
Recent episodes of the ITV soap have seen Evelyn Plummer – played by Maureen Lipman – going to war with Terry, a nasty piece of work illegally breeding puppies.
This week, she has recruited daughter Cassie (Claire Sweeney) to her plight, and tonight, the pair asked Roy Cropper to call a number they suspected was linked to Terry’s puppy farming.
A Scottish woman answered, but her answers left them suspicious and Evelyn and Cassie separately headed to Terry’s property.
While Cassie went in through a window, Evelyn turned up moments later out the front trying to film him.
Unaware her mother was outside tussling with Terry, Cassie headed upstairs and found the adorable puppies crammed into cages, while cash lay in a box on the floor.
Cassie grabbed some of the money and cuddled some of the puppies, telling them that Roy had called a dog charity and they would be rescued soon.
But after smashing Evelyn’s camcorder, Terry headed back inside and sensed there was another problem upstairs.
Heading into the room with the puppies, he shouted at them before Cassie appeared behind him and struck him on the back of the head, knocking him out cold.
Later, Craig Tinker arrived at Roy’s Rolls to take Evelyn in for questioning over the assault, after a neighbour had seen her arguing with Terry in the street.
At the station, Evelyn was incredulous at the situation, and after answering some questions, decided she was ready to leave.
When she wouldn’t cooperate with him any further, Craig had no choice but to arrest her on suspicion of assault.
Coronation Street fans were quick to comment on the latest twist in the tale.
Taking to X – formerly Twitter – one wrote: “I knew Cassie’s actions would put Evelyn at risk. I hope Cassie hands herself in. That’ll be her exit then before Claire does Dancing on Ice.”
Another added: “Craig arrests Evelyn! Really?!”
A third tweeted: “How can the Police seriously believe Evelyn hit Terry over knocking him unconscious.”
