I was Gladiator in the Nineties and the reboot has two things missing, says Ace
I thoroughly enjoyed the new Gladiators.
With my wife, son and daughter it was great to watch together a wholesome family show – just like Gladiators was back in the 1990s when I joined as Ace.
It had razzmatazz and was a good nod to the original Gladiators which ran for 13 series.
I think this new show will run and run, too.
Though I did feel there were a couple of things missing that would make it even better.
It could have done with some back-flipping girls.
In the original show Jet, Lightening and Vogue used to back-flip and front-flip, which I thought was really glamorous.
They were also missing cheerleaders and a big prize.
When I was a Gladiator we used to come on with a prize for the winner, like a £25,000 Jeep, that got everybody fired up.
The new set needs more atmosphere.
It was quite stark in the auditorium.
We used to drop the lights and there was lots of smoke.
There has been some criticism of Bradley Walsh and his son Barney as presenters but they had big shoes to fill.
In our day Fash the Bash was quite brash.
Original presenter John Fashanu may have been a footballer by trade but he put his heart and soul into Gladiators and he would be shouting all the way through the show.
I liked the father and son idea.
Give Barney another season to find his feet and I think we will start to see the magic happen.
But the positives certainly outweigh the negatives and I think the new Gladiators will be a success.
