People are just discovering how much professional hairdresser scissors actually cost – they say it’s ‘wild’
SALON patrons were shocked when they discovered the price of professional hair cutting scissors.
A stylist went around asking for their guesses before revealing the whopping sum.
While one may think their haircuts are overpriced, the truth is the high-end tools many stylists use cost a pretty penny themselves.
To enlighten her clients and spread a little humor, hairdresser Bayley (@beautybybayley_) went around asking them how much they thought her shears cost.
In the video, she held out the stainless-steel scissors and handed them to her first client, asking her to give an estimate.
The client studied the pair, saying she “wanted to look at them” before guessing, and then shared her price: “$100?”
The next client went with a “very specific” number of $39.99, which got a laugh from Bayley.
The third guess was one Bayley couldn’t believe, reacting with a gasp of total shock: “$10?”
A fourth contemplated before giving her answer of $50.
And finally, Bayley asked two males, with one guessing $30 and the other guessing $50.
Next came the big reveal.
When she told one client that the pair actually cost $700, the woman dropped her jaw and said: “Nu uh. Actually?”
Others had similar reactions, with one client saying in disbelief: “F*** off.”
In the comments, Bayley revealed that her shears are her most expensive tool, despite their seemingly ordinary appearance.
While $700 might seem steep, the truth is the price of shears can go way higher than that.
Some high-end Japanese brands that pay particularly close attention to the point where the two blades meet sell their products for over $2,000 – according to Business Insider.
Retailer SharkFin sells a pair for $999.95, while Hanzo has one for $3,236.
Some of Bayley’s viewers explained their thoughts behind the high price.
“My shears are $1,400. They are swivels and they move with my thumb,” one revealed.
“It’s kind of like a high quality chef’s knife. Those things get really expensive really fast,” suggested a second.
Others, however, were simply dumbfounded.
“That’s insane,” one wrote.
“I have a greater appreciation for my mother’s shears collection now. That’s wild,” admitted a second.
“Literally no reason to spend that much,” added another.
