I’m a makeup artist in my 40s – my ‘lip contour’ trick plumps your pout without filler, only overline in a single spot
A MAKEUP pro in her 40s has pulled back the curtain on how she makes her lips full with her “contour” trick.
She showed viewers how she easily gets a luscious look and why it’s important to overline in a single spot when applying your cosmetics.
Katie Moyer (@makeupandskinbykatie) is a freelance makeup artist and skincare enthusiast who shares beauty tips online.
She shared an Instagram Reel of how she gets the perfect nude lip for her skin color.
“I put contour around my lips before I put my liquid on top,” she said.
Then, she overlined on the top and demonstrated how she went across.
“I go over my vermillion border right there in the middle, and then I come down and I come back in the lines on the side,” she demonstrated.
For her lip liner, she used About Face Beauty in the shade Smoking Room, $12
She then took an eyeliner pencil and smudged it a bit on the inner corners of her mouth.
Katie applied the contour technique also to the corners because it “pinches” her lips to create the illusion of a plumper pout and “make the look fuller.”
“When we see things like lip injections or overlining the lip, when it becomes a distraction is when the correct anatomy or a natural anatomy starts to get distorted,” she said.
She added that’s why it’s important to keep the “integrity of the lip shape” by tapering the corners

“Now, I have a glossy, pouty lip look,” she said before the video ended.
Not everyone could understand what Katie meant.
“What does she mean by contouring lips first?” a viewer asked.
“She means to put a little dark shadow around the lips prior to anything else. She likes that it gives the illusion of a poutier lip. She’s silly like that,” the beauty fan replied.
Viewers were impressed by her seamless application and many related to it.
“This reminds me of how I used to fill my lips back in the day with Avon lip products!! That shimmer made my lips way bigger. Love watching your tips!” one commented.
