I’m 60 and refuse to stop wearing bright & bold eyeshadow – haters say I’m too old but I know it looks good
RETIRED make-up artist Jacquie Bruin has worn bright eyeshadow since she was a teenager.
She’s now 60 but still loves experimenting with colours and bold styles and always wants to look her best.
So she was appalled when she saw a movement online demanding anyone over 50 be banned from applying eyeshadow.
Jacquie, from Coatbridge, Lanarkshire, blasted back at the haters and told how she won’t ever be quitting her favourite make-up.
She said: “There should not be an age limit on eyeshadow, or anything else.
“If it makes you feel good then do it regardless of how old you are. I personally have never felt I am too old.
“Age should never get in the way of doing anything that you enjoy. Unless someone asks your opinion, just keep your thoughts to yourself. Live and let live.
“I personally would never insult anyone by telling them you are too old to wear anything.
“I will never stop wearing eyeshadow. I will never stop wearing makeup. This is who I am and I have no intention of changing.”
Jacquie spent 17 years as a makeup artist running her company Looking Good Makeup.
The beauty fanatic refuses to go anywhere without having her full face on and can spend up to two hours getting ready.
Last year we told how she gave herself a Barbie glam-up as a tribute to the doll and hit movie.
One of the key parts of her look is her bright eyeshadow. But so-called online experts claim that it makes people her age appear older.
Jacquie said: “I don’t think it ages you at all. We are all going to grow old, that’s part of life.
“I intend to grow old in full makeup, wearing eyeshadow.
“I have a vast array of them. I was a makeup artist so I have quite a collection to choose from.”
Jacquie has all kinds of brands and colours of eyeshadow and enjoys spending time creating a unique look.
She regularly posts hints and tips about make-up on social media for her fans and followers.
But like everyone else online she has to deal with messages from trolls but had a warning for them.
She said: “I would say keep your nose out of my business. I am old enough, wise enough and intelligent enough to make my own decisions and I don’t need their approval
“Everyone should absolutely wear their eyeshadow with pride. Never let age or negative comments or opinions stop you from being you. Be your own kind of beautiful.”
Jacquie urged everyone to just be who they want to be and go for the look they want, regardless of age.
She said: “You are never too old for eyeshadow. You are never too old for makeup in general.
“Wear what makes you feel good. Feeling good about yourself is what’s most important.
“There is far too much focus on age and it’s something that happens to all of us. So have fun along the way.”
